The human eye is a sensitive part of the body. As days pass, there are many things we are unknowingly doing that can set our eyeballs up for painful infections, freaky injuries, and more. And we're probably guilty of at least a few of them. Some of these things include the following.
1. Rubbing your eyes
Continuously rubbing your eyes can cause a rupture in your blood vessels, Even though it feels good, thereby making your eyes look bloodshot. It can also lead to the transfer of bacteria and viruses to your eyelashes and eyelids, cause inflammation around the eyes making you want to rub it more. Instead of directly rubbing the eye, try to rub around the eye by rubbing on the surface.
2. Sleeping in your makeup
Going to bed without washing your face can do more than leave the makeup stains on your pillow, it can also clog the glands around your peepers and lead to irritated skin, pimples, and even styles painful, raised bumps that can appear on or around the eyelids and the glue on false lashes can get into your cornea causing inflammation.
3. Touching your eyes regularly without washing your hands
Most people touch their face almost 16 times an hour, from there nasty bacteria can be transferred into your eyes. So avoid touching your face regularly or wash your hands before doing so.
4. Picking at your eyelashes
Though pulling eyelashes sometimes is triggered by stress or anxiety, eyelashes prevents dirt, dust and debris from entering your eyes, so pulling them out can leave the eye exposed to particles which can cause the eye to be red and itchy.
5. Swimming without goggles
Though not so fancy or expensive, Goggles form a waterproof seal around your eyes to block out potentially harmful substances or compounds in the water. Our normal tap water, stream or pool water may contain harmful microorganisms with particles that could cause harm to your eyes. When the chlorine used to clean public pools mixes with sweat, urine, and fecal matter, it forms chloramines, a chemical capable of causing eye irritation, and redness.
6. Applying eyeliner to your waterline
When an eyeliner is put inside the eye, it mixes with the tears which is risky as it may be carrying germs that could cause infection. The applicator stick also can harbor bacteria. Hence ladies should try and use their eyeliner outside the eye only
