Six Killed In Train Accident In Denmark

Six people have died in a train accident on the Great Belt bridge in which connects two islands in Denmark.
The network rail authority, Banedanmark, said the accident happened when an express train on the suspension bridge was hit by debris from an oncoming freight train.   The train was heading towards the capital with 131 passengers when the incident occurred. Police said 16 people also sustained injuries but were not in critical condition.
A preliminary investigation by the Danish Accident Investigation Board showed a trailer had blown off a freight wagon onto the oncoming tracks.
Hailed as a major engineering achievement, the 11-mile (18km) Great Belt bridge – opened fully in 1998 – connects the islands of Zealand, where Copenhagen is located, and Funen.
It carries 21,000 train passengers a day, as well as more than 27,000 vehicles.
