A newly discovered cannabis compound that has been shown in the lab is believed to be 30 times more powerful than THC, the most beneficial psychoactive compound in marijuana.
Tetrahydrocannabiphorol, the new cannabinoid, is capable of delivering 30 times the high of THC or any high at all.
But the exact numbers are still unclear because it was discovered recently.
Not only that, but Italian scientists also discovered a second previously compound, which is called as CBDP.
The CBDP is a compound that is the cousin of CBD, the medicinal compound of Marijuana that is known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anticonvulsant activity.
The newly discovered compounds were listed in a journal that was published in Nature, Scientific Reports.
According to the authors of the study, the compounds were isolated and identified from the Italian medical cannabis variety known as FM2 using mass spectrometry and metabolomics, which are processes used to find the basic chemicals of a sample.
The authors said that the ability of the THCP to blind to human cannabinoid receptors found in the endocannabinoid system by sending the compound to a lab to be tested in a tube.
The job of the endocannabinoid system is to keep our body in homeostasis, or equilibrium. It also helps in regulating everything from sleep to appetite to inflammation to pain.
When a person smokes cannabis, the THC compound overwhelms the endocannabinoid system. It latches on to the cannabinoid receptors and interfering with their ability to interact with neurons.
In the study, the researchers found that THCP bounded strongly to both receptors, 33 times more than THC does and 63 times more than another compound called THCV.
The finding led the authors to wonder if THCP might explain why some particularly potent cannabis varieties have a stronger effect.
Dr. Cinzia Citti, the lead author of the study, said, “This means that these compounds have higher affinity for the receptors in the human body.”
Dr. Citti, a post-doctoral fellow in life sciences at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy, said, “In cannabis varieties where THC is present in very low concentrations, then we can think that the presence of another, more active cannabinoid can explain those effects.”
Cannabinoid System And Receptors
The ECS (Endocannabinoid System) is a cell-signaling system that was discovered by researchers that were studying THC in the early 1900s. The full range of ECS is still being determined, but studies up to date indicate that they play a huge role in sleep, mood, appetite, memory, reproduction, and fertility.
Endocannabinoids, which is called by many as endogenous cannabinoids, are molecules that are produced by our body so our internal functions can run seamlessly. As a part of our body’s natural process, endocannabinoids bind with endocannabinoid receptors to signal that the ECS needs to take action.
These actions could relieve pain in a specific part of the body or signal that inflammation is occurring.
When THC enters the body, it directly interacts with the ECS by binding to the receptors, which results in a wide chain of reactions on the body and the mind.
Researchers have not fully determined how ECS is affected by CBD, but some scientists believe that it stops endocannabinoids from breaking down.
