Armed hoodlums operating in Ubogo quarters in Udu local government area of Delta State in the early hours of Friday allegedly opened fire on the supervisor of a popular petrol station and made away with about N300,000.
It was gathered that the armed hoodlums swooped on the supervisor at gunpoint, allegedly tied him to the ground and shot him severally on the leg, thereby forcing him to say where the money was kept, and on removing the money disappeared into the thin air.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Asaba, said the victim did not die but sustained varying degrees of injuries in his two legs as a result of the gun shot injuries.
He disclosed that one of the suspects in the two-man gang was arrested few hours after the incident.
The PPRO said, “The police in Udu police division, who got wind of the incident, gave the armed hoodlums hot chase as they zoomed off in a motorcycle and caught one of them during exchange of gun, while the gang leader escaped with bullets wounds, the arrested suspect identified as Sunday Kelechi had made useful statements to the police and will be charged to court on completion of investigation while the police have gone after the fleeing suspect with a view to arresting him”.
He stated that the police recovered two locally-made guns, including 30 ammunition from the suspect, adding however that the N300,000 was yet to be recovered.
